Confessions and other news for tv junkies, UL fans and yogies.

I have a confession to make and it's one that I admitted to Hank and Debbie Perret when I talked with them about joining Miles Perret Cancer Services. I had been involved with MPCS as the Chair of the Junior League's SMILES committee, which means that I put on monthly events for clients and their families, and even after that, I still really didn't understand WHAT Miles Perret Cancer Services did.  I went to Games of Acadiana to volunteer with sign ins and I still didn't understand what Games of Acadiana had to do with Miles Perret Cancer Services. I toured the Center and I still didn't understand how people with cancer were being helped.
Now I do and I want to make sure that everyone else in Acadiana does too! Right now I'm working on putting together a series of Public Service Announcements. I'm sure you've seen them for other non-profits like Susan G. Komen and St. Jude. For the first time, Miles Perret Cancer Services will be spreading the word about what we do through PSA's on television. Keep your eye out for the 30 second spots in February and let me know what you think.
Speaking of thinking ..... I think Tony Robichaux rocks (or should I say, hits it out of the park for our community?). Here's why. UL's baseball coach is a very busy guy and he still makes time to support non-profits in our community. When I saw Tony speak a few years ago at a Junior League meeting, I was so inspired by his way. Tony doesn't just talk the talk, he walks the walk. He gets his baseball players involved in volunteer work and he doesn't call a tv station when they're doing it ---- it's not about getting publicity for good works, it's about the good works and I love that.
So when he called me today to say he would be glad to speak at a Junior Leadership Service Day here at the Miles Perret Center I was thrilled ~ thrilled for the 40 high school juniors who want to learn more about leadership and get to from a man who exemplifies what it means to be a leader.
And finally, are you feeling flexible? If not, no worries, we've got just the thing to make clients feel better! This month we're adding yoga to our calendar for clients. Our first class is Friday, January 30th at 10am.
