Replacing Refined, White Flour with Whole Grains  

Examples of Whole Grains:

Wheat & Bulgur (cracked wheat)

Oats (including oatmeal)

Brown & Wild Rice

Rye & Barley

Buckwheat

Millet

Quinoa

Corn (including popcorn & cornmeal

This month, we are focusing in on Plant-Based Main Dishes.  That's right, we are going meatless! Don't worry, you don't have to give up your grilled chicken and steak forever.  We are just encouraging you to try going meatless for one meal once a week, once a day, or maybe even a whole day each week.  Our favorite is to try a Meatless Monday to experiment with making plant-based main dishes a part of your regular diet.  Read on to discover the health benefits more plant-based eating can provide...

Green SmoothieJuly is already here and we are definitely feeling the summer heat!  This month, we are focusing on going green with our smoothies.  "Green Smoothie Goodness" we call it.  If you have never added greens to your smoothie, you are missing out on tons of phytochemicals, vitamins and beneficial digestive enzymes.  Green smoothies make a fantastic breakfast on the go, a superb snack, or a rejuvenating post work out pick-me-up.  Give it a try this July.  Go Green to get lean and mean!  ( ;

This Saturday our local Farmer's Market was overflowing with the most beautiful fruits and vegetables.  And, the organic kale was absolutely gorgeous and only $3 for a HUGE bunch.  After filling my basket, I ran right home and made this most delicious Asian Kale Salad.  This recipe was shared at one of our Wellness Potluck Parties by a Yoga and Pilates student.  Everyone loved it!  I hope you do, too.

Summer is just around the corner along with all of the wonderful summer veggies AND the hot and heavy humidity so familiar to Louisiana natives!  With all this summer heat, who wants to spend time cooking or eating a hot and heavy meal?  This month, we are focusing on salads.  Raw salads, cold salads, sweet salads, savory salads, pasta salads, potato salads...we are going crazy over salads!  We will also have plenty of fabulous, easy to prepare salad dressings.  Read more for tips to help you create a delicious, nutritious and interesting summer salad.  And, stay tuned for some fantastic recipes!!!
